When you ask Metias "what does Soo Bahk Do do for you?" he simply says "Soo Bahk Do makes me want to become a teacher and a leader! I learn self-defense and how important respect is. It makes me feel great and I never want to stop!" On the other hand, Andreas' answer was "Karate makes me happy, mommy. I am learning how to concentrate and it makes me feel good about myself."
As a parent these are words and emotions you long to hear. Soo Bahk Do and USK Karate Academy have done this for my children. I personally could go on forever and tell you how amazing we feel this martial art is, but you need to see it for yourself. Every child deserves to feel this special and great!

We enrolled our sons in USK Karate Academy because it was the closest martial arts academy to our home. Now, two and a half years later, we wonder how we got so lucky. From the beginning Master Pryor has extolled the virtues of discipline, self control and respect in his pupils, along with encouraging physical fitness, developing skills with repetition, even brief meditation (just my thoughts!). This tradition is being carried out by Alvas Kyo Sa Nim and every one of the instructors. I have never had a moments regret because my kids now know right from wrong, are physically fitter and have a better chance to succeed in society, and they have fun in class!

As an ESE teacher, I have taken particular notice of the varying calibers of students of a wide range of physical and mental capabilities who are equally encouraged in this dojang to do their best. I personally experienced a physical setback, which kept me away from Soo Bahk Do for about 4 months (4 fractured metatarsals). However, I was kept in the loop by Kyo Sa Nim Alvas himself, whose caring and concern and teaching extended beyond the dojo. His Kind words kept me motivated to return and to "do what I can".
Since that time, there has been a lot of compensation for what I refer to as "my ugly left foot."
I look around and see a lot of what I call "youthful wisdom". These teachers here are young enough and wise enough to believe in their own limitlessness in their training. They are sharp enough to spread it around so the students can always improve and push their zone of capability up a notch.
The leadership training is something I've never seen before. I certainly look forward to watching some of the girls go though the course and come into their own as Soo Bahk Do teachers. I could go on and on extolling the virtues of this Soo Bahk Do dojang, but I have to go to class now. I wouldn't want to be late and do 25 push-ups. You know how strict they are.
